Osmothèque I

A laboratory that translates whatsapp messages into smell.

The agency, Detour asked me to exhibit my installation Osmothèque. Osmothèque is an interactive installation that plays with the viewers senses. The story was designed and installed into a creative piece. The first part consists in smelling a message that has been analysed. There is a message with its representation in the form of a graph and a smell. Four olfactive families were chosen (Floral, Wooden, Spicy & Citrus) and they were associated with distinct emotions. For this message the amount of emotions chosen generates the graphic representation.

The participant is invited to read and interpret the message based on the fragrance they have in their hands.

The second part of the installation allows the participant to create their own smell based on a message they have in their phones. They are able to choose different emotions from each olfactive family depending on how they feel their message smells. After they can then create their smell by creating their composition formula with the droplets of each olfactive family. They then take this home with them.

Other messages

Alongside the installation the viewer is allowed to read and smell other previously analysed messages. These messages have their respective smells in little pots with their corresponding colours, too.
